What is a podiatrist?

A podiatrist is someone who specializes in foot and ankle problems. Currently in New Zealand, podiatry can only be studied at Auckland University of Technology. All practicing podiatrists are required to hold an annual practicing certificate and are governed by the New Zealand Podiatry Board. 

When do I need to see a podiatrist?

If you have pain, an uncertainty, or just need your feet to be tuned up then we can help.

What are your prices?

Prices depend on the treatment required and whether you are a private patient or if you are eligible for subsidized ACC. Please contact us for more specific information regarding our fees.

Do I need an existing ACC claim?

No. East Coast Podiatry is ACC registered and can start a claim if your pain is injury related.

How do I make an appointment?

Easy, call us on 020 4190 0426 and if we are not available we will return you call as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can make an appointment by filling in the contact box.

My toe nail is sore, and I think it may be ingrown, what do I do?

Don’t pick at it! If its sore now it will likely get worse. Often treatment is as easy as carefully removing the rough/sharp nail edge. For developed ingrown nails, East Coast Podiatry offers minor surgical procedures that are very effective in preventing reoccurrence.

I get pain in my feet when I’m running…

Running is a great sport but it is a high impact sport…  Injury prevention requires good control, strength and technique, as well as, stretching and a training program. East Coast Podiatry can offer strategies to prevent running injuries as well as assessment and treatment of existing injuries.

I need to buy new running shoes, can you give me advice?

Footwear comes in all shapes, sizes and technical structures. It can be a big challenge to find a decent pair that is right for your foot type. Will Jones has worked for Shoe Clinic and has extensive knowledge an insight on what footwear is currently available and can give advice on which would be most suitable for your running style.

Do you treat bunions?

Bunions can only be removed surgically, but podiatry input can prevent them from getting worse and can offload pressure areas.

I have a fungal infection, what should I do?

There are effective treatment options so come in to discuss the right option for you.

I seem to be walking around in circles, do I have a shorter leg?

Probably not but it is worth checking..

Should I see a podiatrist if I am getting ongoing knee pain?

Yes. The foot, the knee, and the hips are all directly linked; a problem in one link of the chain can often affect the other links.
